The Ghetto Girlfriend & The Hipster Boyfriend

Our dates are unorthodox. It's the only way he gets to spend time with me. He's learned to love them..play with them and give them piggy back rides. It ididn't start out that way and every week I see him change. He started going there in tight pants, a tight shirt and a fedora. A cute hipster outfit.

Every week we try to go to just spend time with these children who have so much hope to be able to get over generations of poverty. The poorest of the poor,that's what they are.

I read stories, do values formation activities, sing, dance..in a small room or on the streets. I don't care. I care for them and thousands like them at this area. Mark calls me the "ghetto girlfriend" sometimes because I really do dance on the streets with them. Most of them are displaced victims of Typhoon Ondoy and their lives have not yet been rebuilt..or whatever semblance of a life they had.

These kids need a school and while this is still in the works, they need a mobile school that would cost Two Million Pesos. A school that may be used at other areas and will be run by Salesians of Don Bosco.

Mark and I go home exhausted, stinky, dirty, tired but happy. Our dates never started pretentious or to impress. I guess that's why what we have now is just so real and true. Like these kids we have a lot of hope.
